Zombie Apocalypse

In these dark days the world's resources are scarce, everyone fighting others just to survive. Thinking of ways to better the world, scientists have been working on a serum to help wild life and plants grow. But something went horribly wrong, the serum had instead turned the people into blood-thirsty maniacs. It spread throughout the city easily, once bitten you turn into one of them. Some have even turned even more gruesome, mutating into something entirely different. Instead of banding together people instead have drifted apart, growing weaker.

Hoping for one last chance of survival, the scientists started creating an antidote, but they had died before they were able to finish it. Before they had died word had gotten out that they were working on the cure, but few had managed to survive long enough to get to it. Now it's only a matter of time before the world is over-run by these flesh-eating monsters.

Serenity often wears clothes that don't seem to match up, be it different coloured socks, or a top and bottom that are far different. Clothing malfunctions aside, she has long red hair that falls to her waist and eyes of sapphire.

Rita stood there for a moment, watching the drunk stumble down the alley. She shook her head, wondering if the man would ever learn. She had told him countless times not to go out in public while drinking, but he never listened. But as she got closer she realized that something was off about him.
"Jack?" she asked quietly, taking a few steps towards him. He made a groaning sound and lurched toward her. Her eyes widened in surprise. Jack was no longer part of the living. He smelled of death and decay; there was a chunk of flesh hanging off of his cheek. She nearly screamed, but she controlled the urge. She turned and fled down the dark alleyway, away from her dead friend.

Serenity sat atop the roof of the apartment her parents owned before everything started. It was one of those apartments that was built over a business; a bakery. Sitting on the ledge, she swung her feet freely. She was there because the wind was, and it was all she had.

Once, this place smelled of pies and cakes and joy, but now all that had left. Those smells, she wondered if she would ever smell again. Everything was stale now. The world was dead, and all that remained to her was the wind.

Claude leaned against a wall as his feet were about to give away. There were blood stains on his shirt but they weren't his. Corpses surrounded the alley where Claude stood, panting heavily; tired and exhausted. He was thirsty but water was scarce in the city, given how the situation were. In this silent city where the dead whispered and the living were replaced with the undead, Claude felt a bit lonely but not to the extent where he would emotionally break down. Things weren't right, that's for sure. But Claude was used to solitude; being alone.

Clutching his handgun in one hand, he put his other hand in his pocket and took out a cigarette and a lighter. He began feeling desperate and began losing consciousness by all the exercise he had just gotten (thanks to the zombies) so smoking was the only thing that might have kept him going. Which it did.

Rita started to slow down as she scanned the area, her gaspsing breaths loud. She looked behind her, relieved that she had lost the undead that had been chasing her. Now she had to worry about other zombies hearing her and following the sound to where she crouched. Rita was just glad that she had ran a lot in the past, otherwise shed be dead for sure.

Her gaze caught on something moving from the corner of her eyes, something moving. She held her breath, thinking it was one of the undead. Her gaze scanned around, frantically looking for a weapon, but when there was other movement she froze. Her eyes had widened in disbelief, it wasn't a zombie....it was a living being. She peeked over at him, realizing the movement she had seen was him lighting his cigarette. "You do know that's bad for you, right?" She asked hesitantly, just wanted to hear another's voice instead of the groaning of the undead.

Claude's fatigue was beginning to taking the better of him. "Tch. The smoke's not enough to keep me awake..." he said to himself when he suddenly heard someone running and stopping near the entrance of the alley. He looked over and it was a girl who was frantically breathing and telling him that smoking is bad for him. Claude smirked a little before throwing his cigarette down and crushing it with his foot. He then got back on his feet and walked towards the girl saying, "People used to tell me the same, but dying by smoking is better than dying like these things here.".

He approached the girl, a few steps away from her, and spoke again, "You seem like you just had the run of your life. Did a few rabid dogs chase after you?" he said while trying to be sarcastic.

Reina was about to make a replybut he had started toward her. She was almost beginning to think that she should've just kept running. She took a calming breath, her breathing starting to regulate. She then thought over what he just said, "of course I had to run for my life," she told him, looking at him as f he was stupid.

She shook her head, she will never understand any of the male species. Reina looked at him again, her expression neutral, "so what rock did you crawl out of?" She asked him, "or did the aliens just drop you off?" Reina was just as sarcastic as she asked her questions, not even trying to hide it in her voice. She had never liked being spoken down to...at least it seemed like he was speaking down to her.

Claude ignored the girl's sarcasm and quietly approached her further, eventually make her back up to a wall. Claude put one hand on the wall and stared down at the girl who seemed to be fidgeting out of fright. "Hmm... you said that smoking is bad for me, right? Don't you know it's bad for you to be with a man, and alone at that? You do know what I'm capable of... do you not?" he said as he took the ends of her hair and ran his fingers through them.

"Run away now, it's for your own good.". The smile that Claude had fixated on his face vanished as he said that. "There's a police station not far. There are people barricading in there and are looking for survivors. Go to them and they'll take care of you. Survive while you can." and saying so, he turned around, put his hands in his pocket, took out another cigarette and lighted it up. "And find a weapon for yourself, for crying out loud. Not everyone will let go of a young girl if they see one, dead or undead alike. Now scram, kid." and saying so he took off himself while stuttering a few steps whilst walking.

Cupcake aimlessly walked down the street, wondering what to do and where she should go. She had run away from home two days prior, and didn't even have enough sense to change out of her school uniform or bring any extra clothes. She almost wanted to ask some one for help, but she hadn't seen anyone on the streets in a while... Anyone that was still human anyway.
Suddenly she spotted a girl, probably somewhere in her teens being backed against a wall by a creepy guy. He then turned and walked away before hurting her.
"Excuse me!" Shouted Cupcake to the girl, as she tried to catch up to her. "You have no idea how happy I am to see another person!"

Reina watched as the annoying man walked off after saying those rude things to her. She glared at his departing back before turning to the person who had just run up to her. "Believe me, you have no idea how happy I am to see you," she said, glad that this person wasnt rude..unlike the last one. She shoved those thoughts away as she pu her focus onto the girl.

She looked at the girl in confusion. The girl was too young to be out here by herself, especially here lately. "Why are you out here by yourself?" She asked the girl, trying not to sound rude at all. But some might think that she was.

Serenity turned and started a fire in a nearby trash can. It always got so cold. Though such flames could never really get rid of the cold she felt, it would cease the chill of the air.

Off in the distance, there was a girl shouting. A mile? Two? Didn't really matter. "Brain munchers everywhere, and people are shouting. Well, at least the stupid ones die quickly." There was something close too. The smell of a cigarette, maybe? Interested, Serenity called out: "I've never heard of a zombie who smokes!"

Cupcake paused at the lady's question, unsure of how she should answer. "I've got no where else to be." Said she, fidgeting with her hands nervously. "I could ask the same of you, it's dangerous out here for anyone. Especially with creepy old men out prowling with the flesh eaters."

One of her biggest peeves were creepy men, though she knew she was too young to have any say in how people choose to live out their lives, whether they be creepers or sweethearts. She still had an overwhelming urge to catch up with that man and kick him in places for being so rude to such a nice lady, though she knew that humans should be the least of her worries.

Claude walked out of the alley and out in the open. He was looking for a place where he would be safe to spend the night. It was a rather cold night though smoking did most of the part for keeping him warm. When was was looking around, he saw a smoke rising from somewhere. "Fire?" Claude began walking in the direction the smoke was coming from, sure that many others were turning that way too. Either the person was a survivor, or a total idiot because lighting a smoke was going to attract a lot of attention from the zombies.

Upon nearing the destination, he saw someone yelling out to him that she's never seen a zombie that smokes. When Claude got nearer, he saw that it was a girl. "Believe me kid, you won't be seeing one either." he said as he got closer. Upon coming to a stop and seeing that the girl isn't looking back at him, he spoke, "You do know that this little campfire of yours is going to attract unwanted attention, right? By that, I don't mean me. There are others coming your way." but the girl still wouldn't look at him in the eye. When he squatted down and saw her face, her eyes had no soul. There was not even a tingle of reflection in her eyes. "She's blind..." he said to himself.

Rita noticed the other girl's fidgeting but didn't remark on it. She knew how she was feeling...but on a larger scale. The earlier encounter had shaken her up real bad; she just wasn't used to dealing with men all that often. She had always stayed to herself, not even bothering with a social life.

The other girl's voice drew her attention and she focused on her again. "Creepy old men, huh?" She asked, her voice full of amusement. She held her laughter back, afraid of drawing other's attention, "my thought exactly," she told the girl, smiling at her. She could tell that the girl was younger the 16, but she couldn't pin-point the age. Rita held her hand out, "I'm Rita."

(OoC: Bas, I am on a roof, by the way.)

"You're right, I won't be seeing any." Even though there was now someone by her, Serenity still felt as alone as ever. "And so what if I attract attention? My world is gone."

She knew the man was looking at her, and she knew he knew she wouldn't see him. She could feel it. "I can't even tell if he is trying to be nice or an ass.." She sighed and looked where she was sure his eyes were. "What do you want?

Cupcake nervously took Rita's hand. "My name is... errr... Cupcake." At this point she thought it better to leave the person she was before behind. The cold of night was biting at her face, her cheeks had gone numb, but she didn't have anywhere to go to get out of the cold.

"I know this is a lot to ask, but... I don't really have anywhere to go, would you mind if I stayed with you for a while?" She said.

"It's nice to meet you cupcake," she said, knowing that it wasn't her real name. She watched the girl shiver slightly and she immediately took her coat off and wrapped it around the girl.

"Of course you're welcome to stay with me...but we'll have to find a place first." Rita smiled at the girl even as she scanned the nearby area. But as far as she could see, she wasn't able to find a place that didn't have broken windows. Rita sighed, trying to hide her frustration from the girl, not wanting her to feel anymore stressed than she already was.

"Looks like someone's in a bad mood." Claude said as he shrugged. "So, what are you doing here? Aren't ya afraid of the dark or something? Man, girls of today aren't any less than boys." he continued.

Claude sat down besides the fire and threw away the almost finished cigarette. "What's your part of the story, kid?"

"This is my home, and the light is no brighter than the dark." Serenity got up and walked to the middle of the roof. "Tell me, sir, are my clothes matching?"

Thinking on what she just asked, she shook her head. "Nevermind that, and nevermind my story. At least until I know who you are." She just continued walking to the door to the stairway. "This man.. I don't trust him. Best to be at the door."

Claude took another cigarette and lighted it up using the fire that was set on the dustbin on the roof. "Claude. Claude M. Knight. Age 21 and used to work for Genitek Co., that is, before I got fired. That was three days before the apocalypse took place. I'm not the kind of guy who talks much about himself, so that's all I'll let you on."

Claude took a smoke and continued, "You aren't wearing matching clothes by the way."

Rita's coat was a warm relief from a bit of the cold, but she still couldn't help but shiver. She should have changed before she ran away. Cupcake saw the frustration on Rita's face as she scanned the surrounding area and tried to think of a place where it would be safe.

"Maybe we could go look together?" Cupcake said. She thought she was so grown up, but in the end she still needed help from a grown-up. She felt pathetic.
